Iezerul Mare Peat Bog (Turbăria Iezerul Mare)
Nestled at 1,014 meters, in a crater on the plateau of the Igniș Mountains, the peat bog – which is also called Tăul Hărniceştilor – is a place of bathing for deer and boars. The lake is not very large – it has about 200 square meters – but the swamped surface spreads on 20 hectares, with a peat thick of 7 meters.
Here, at Iezerul Mare Peat Bog, the most representative swamp flora in the whole Maramureș can be found: Siberian ligularia, crack willow, common sundew, crowbery, hare’s-tail cottongrass, bog rosemary, purple moor-grass and lesser pond-sedge.
