Tătarului Gorges (Cheile Tătarului)
As you climb to Mara River’s spring to the northwest, you find the Tătarului Gorge – a gorge of volcanic rocks described by geologists as “the only gorge cut into pyroxene andesite of Romania.” The eastern slope is rather a cluster of rocky detritus and forested area, in contrast to the western slope that is an almost vertical rock face.
This is also a natural protected area – suitable for hiking and cycling.
