Near Breb (one of Romania's most charming villages) lies Morărenilor Lake — a nearly circular lake 20 m deep, formed by a landslide. Today it is fed by a stream with constant flow and underground springs, with its surplus flowing into the Mara tributary Valea Mare.
You can reach Morărenilor Lake on a hike or by bicycle, climbing to 853 m altitude. Besides birds of various species including mallard, the lake and its shores harbour the common brown frog, viviparous lizard, yellow-bellied toad, little grebe and even the viper.
Plants typical of the site include bogbean, heather, black alder, hazel, golden willow and elder. From the lake area you can see, in the distance, Gutâi Peak and the Rooster's Crest — though that calls for another day and another hike.
